The commandment “You shall not commit adultery”, when examined through an ethical and symbolic lens, extends far beyond the literal prohibition of marital infidelity. In a contemporary context—marked by normative relativism, fluid identities, and redefined relational structures—this commandment may be understood as a call to fidelity not only toward another person, but also toward oneself, one’s values, commitments, and the authenticity of one’s intentions.
In this photographic project, realized through the technique of light painting, the image does not depict the act of betrayal; rather, it investigates its energetic trace—the moment of fractured trust, emotional dissonance, and the blurring of boundaries between Self and Other. They remain in a state of continuous collision, suggesting a disjunction between body and emotion, loyalty and desire.
Within the language of Conscious Abstraction, “You shall not commit adultery” is reinterpreted as a meditation on the consequences of violating unspoken, yet deeply embedded human contracts: those of loyalty, empathy, and trust. The work avoids moralizing; instead, it opens a space for reflection on the fragility of bonds, including those that are spiritual or symbolic. In today’s culture of excess and availability, betrayal need not be physical—it can emerge from emotional indifference, inattentiveness, or the abandonment of relational depth in favor of instant gratification.
